Jimmy Buffett Gets Own Day

Every dog has his day, and now so does Jimmy Buffett – at least in Pennsylvania.

House Resolution No. 333, passed yesterday in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, designated June 23, 2007 as “Jimmy Buffet Day.”

The entertainer will be performing at the Post-Gazette Pavilion in Burgettstown that day in a sold-out concert.

According to the resolution “Jimmy Buffett is a world-class entertainer known for his support of charitable and environmental causes throughout the region,” “more than 1,500 active Pennsylvania Parrot Heads (as some of his supports are known) join all citizens of this Commonwealth in Welcoming Jimmy Buffett …”

The resolution also credits Buffett for the charitable works committed by his fans, as groups such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Animal Friends and Make-A-Wish Foundation have all benefited from their activities.

The singer/songwriter is known for his popular breezy songs like “Margaritaville” and for his chain of music-themed restaurants in coastal resort towns.

Really! Jimmy Buffett is directly or indirectly (through the local network of over 200 Parrot Head Clubs) responsible for the donation of over $10.5 MILLION in the past 5 years alone. What other entertainer has a fan base that is totally dedicated to raising funds, and donating hundreds of thousands of hours of their time for these charitable works? Really!

Amen, John!

As a fellow Parrothead up here in the Boston area, I can back up your claim about all the money and time donated for charitable causes. I have personally donated many hours working with the Special Olympics and have also donated money to causes such as protecting the coastlines and cancer research.

Phins up, brother!

Along with all the charitable endeavors that the Parrotheads do, consider the amount of money a Buffett concert pumps into the local economy. I know the motels around the Pittsburgh venue have been sold-out for weeks, and the stores and restaurants have reported an increase in their sales.

Considering the mindless celebration of booze Buffet inspires, he should be raising funds for Alzheimer, not to mention AA, MADD, etc. A one-trick pony indeed. Aah, only in America can one with such little talent achieve such enduring success(?). But then again, hasn't America itslef become one big Margaritaville, wasting away in its own triviality and inanity?

Sure, Jimmy Buffett does great things. I don't think anyone disagrees with that. But, come on. The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has nothing better to do?

They seem to have solved the issues racism, discrimination, poverty, health care, drugs, drunk driving, mass transit, the economy, taxes and the war in Iraq.

There was nothing left to do but declare June 23 Jimmy Buffett Day.

P.S. Landshark Lager is sweet.

Big Daddio, I would step by step tell you how wrong you are Buffett and the whole "experience" around it, but you would have to have a clue and with comments like " A one-trick pony" and such little talent", you obviously have the IQ of a retarded flea!

If you every get a clue, look up all the songs, books, and plays he's created. Not to mention all the good work that others here have already mentioned, along with his stores and restaraunts that employ thousands of people.

To make the comments you make, you are obviously very ignorant about him and would rather just shout out old cliches; sounding like you know what you are talking about!

Hello! There is clue out there if you look!
